Laurel Pehmoeller

Visiting Assistant Professor, Digital Media & Design

Laurel Pehmoeller is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Digital Media and Design, and a video artist and filmmaker. Her work explores the varied ways in which the genres of moving image, from documentary to experimental, can overlap and intersect. Themes of feminism, the male gaze, and self-determination are the backbone of her traditional narrative work as well as her video art. She is currently producing a series of short videos, each highlighting faculty who work within the sphere of human rights. She is interested in how these types of films can support and promote human rights initiatives and scholarly research, and how academia can better communicate with outside stakeholders and communities.
