Post-Doctoral Fellow, Human Rights Education
Ian M. McGregor is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Human Rights Institute where he conducts research and aids in the development and management of the Human Rights Close to Home initiative. Ian earned his doctoral degree from the University of Connecticut through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the Neag School of Education. Prior to attending UConn, he was a high school social studies teacher in Louisiana for six years. He received his bachelor’s degree in history, master’s degree in teaching, and graduate certificate in gifted education from Louisiana State University. His scholarship and teaching focus on social studies education, human rights education, citizenship education, and teacher education with an emphasis on teaching difficult history. His current research explores how teachers and students conceptualize citizenship in human rights education and the use of virtual interactive technologies in Holocaust museum education in collaboration with the UK National Holocaust Centre and Museum and Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center.
