Our Team

HRI Leadership

The Human Rights Institute is led by Kathryn Libal, Associate Professor in the School of Social Work and Human Rights Institute.  Faculty also hold leadership roles research and academic programs of the Human Rights Institute.

Joint Faculty

The Institute has a unique model of joint faculty appointments with the departments of Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy and the Schools of Business and Law and Social Work. The Institute currently has eleven joint hires.

Affiliated Faculty

In addition to our joint faculty members, there are more than 50 additional faculty members working in the area of human rights at UConn.

Institute Staff

Our team is supported by Program Manager, Rachel Jackson, and Program Assistant, Lyndsay Nalbandian.

Gladstein Committee & Chair

The Gladstein Committee advises the Director of the Human Rights Institute on a variety of matters, including faculty hiring, overall policy and direction, grant initiatives.  It is mutli-disciplinary committee, which includes faculty from the humanities, social science and law school.

Board of Overseers

The Board of Overseers of the Human Rights Institute is a consultative body that serves as a bridge between the Human Rights Institute and the community beyond campus boundaries

Research Affiliates

Our Research Affiliate Program recognizes the contribution of individual scholars to the work and mission of the Human Rights Institute. While our research affiliates are not in residence, we would like to acknowledge the significant contributions they have made to the intellectual life of the Institute.
