Human Rights Course on Engineering and Sustainability Highlighted in UConn Today

A new course entitled Assessment for Human Rights and Sustainability, brings together the technical focus of engineering disciplines and the lens of social impact from human rights discourse. Shareen Hertel (Associate Professor of Political Science and Human Rights) and Allison McKay (Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering) collaborated in teaching this course for the first time this past fall. A momentous advancement for both disciplines, students and professors have expressed the importance of combining these foci into a course analyzing the social impact of development and engineering practices. William Weir of the School of Engineering describes below in a UConn Today article the incredible impact this course has both for students who took the course and for the UConn community as a whole.
